The European Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform brings together stakeholders active in the broad field of the circular economy in Europe.

As a « network of networks » it goes beyond sectorial activities and highlights cross-sector opportunities and challenges, providing a meeting place for stakeholders to share their solutions and team up to address specific challenges, while bridging existing initiatives, and advocating the circular economy at national, regional and local level, and supporting its implementation.

This website will be pivotal in fostering exchanges and interaction and inspire the future EU vision on circular economy. It is work in progress and will evolve over time.

Waste to energy under the circular economy

Setting Europe on the right track towards a more circular economy starts with implementing the EU waste hierarchy to its full potential. The recent communication of the Commission on « The role of waste-to-energy in the circular economy » looks at ensuring that the recovery of energy from waste in the EU is consistent with the objectives pursued in the Circular Economy Action Plan, in particular when it comes to progressing towards higher levels of the waste hierarchy (prevention, reuse and recycling).

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is currently drawing up an opinion on this communication, with a view to gathering civil society organisations’ views on this critical aspect of waste management. Interested stakeholders will have the opportunity to feed into this opinion during a public hearing scheduled on Monday 15 May from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
